Shrek the Musical

Shrek Broadway PosterShrek the Musical has officially taken over Drury Lane, with the green carpet landing at the Theatre Royal in London from June 2011 onwards! The musical is a new stage adaptation of the blockbuster film franchise, twisting the idea of fairytales on its head in a hilarious and fantastical caper to rescue a princess from the clutches of a ferocious dragon. However in Shrek’s world nothing conforms to our expectations and the hero is an ogre, the princess is a feminist with a sharp tongue, and the dragon is a lovesick soul diva with a voice to match!

Donkey, Shrek and FionaUsing all the original characters from the hit film and with a host of new fairytale favourites including the Mad Hatter and Red Riding Hood’s wolf, the stage show focuses on the monstrous Shrek, a maligned ogre who is content to live in the outskirts of society until his swamp is invaded by a banished gaggle of magical creatures. Vowing to win back control of his patch, Shrek sets off for Duloc to convince diminutive monarch Lord Farquaad to give him back his home, but ends up becoming entangled in a heroic quest where appearances are not what they seem, resulting in surprising consequences for him and the entire kingdom…

Shrek the Musical is a witty interpretation of a modern children’s classic, with a brand new score of side-splitting songs, incredible costumes and parent-friendly one-liners making it the perfect family night out.

Just recived my booking confirmation which states “Amanda Holden will play Princess Fiona until the 3rd October, but will not perfom Thursday and Saturday matinees. Alice Fearn will perform the role on the matinee performances.”

Thankfully I didn’t book a Thursday or Saturday matinee.

So Amanda Holden is leaving Shrek!!
